How to choose a leather laptop bag

Four things decide whether a leather laptop bag is worth buying, roughly in this order:

  • Grade first. If the listing states full-grain, it keeps the hide’s strongest layer and ages into a patina over years of carry. If it says genuine leather or stays silent, treat it as a shorter-term bag and price it accordingly. See full-grain vs. top-grain for why the wording on the listing matters more than the photos.
  • Size it to your laptop, then add a little. A 16-inch bag swallows a 15-inch machine plus a charger and a notebook; a 17-inch bag is for a full-size laptop plus files. Buying exactly to your screen size leaves no room for everything else you carry.
