Editorial Policy
The standards every page on this site is held to — and the things we will never do.
Sourcing and citation
Every material claim about a product — grade, tannage, dimensions, hardware, warranty — is read from the retailer’s own listing on a dated visit, and that date is shown on the page. Every general claim about leather — what full-grain is, how vegetable tanning works, why patina forms — is cited to a published, authoritative source such as Encyclopaedia Britannica, the reference literature, or the Leather Working Group. We do not cite a source we did not read, and we do not invent statistics.
No fabrication, ever
This is the line we will not cross. There are no invented reviews, testimonials, star ratings, or before-and-after claims anywhere on Veg Tan Club. We do not claim to have tested, owned, or lab-measured products we haven’t. When a listing doesn’t publish a spec, we print “Not published” rather than guessing. Fabricating trust is worse than admitting a limit, so we admit the limit.
How we handle prices
Prices are never hardcoded into our content. They come from a live retailer feed, carry the date they were pulled, and expire on their own within 48 hours if the feed stops — at which point the button falls back to “Check price on Amazon.” We would rather show no number than a stale one.
Independence
We earn affiliate commissions, disclosed on our affiliate disclosure page, but commission never changes a recommendation. No brand pays for placement, a better ranking, or a softer verdict; if that ever changed, we would label it clearly as sponsored. Our full evaluation process is on the methodology page.
Corrections and updates
We get things wrong sometimes, and when we do we fix them in the open. Roundups are reviewed for picks, availability and links regularly, and the “last updated” date on each page reflects the latest substantive edit. If a reader flags a genuine error and they’re right, we correct the page and note that we did. To report one, contact us— corrections are the most useful message you can send.
Author
Content is written by an enthusiast who reads the spec sheets and does the buy-it-for-life math — not a credentialed leatherworker or a test lab. We frame our expertise honestly: genuine interest and transparent method, never a borrowed credential. More about who writes the site is on our about page.
